State of Washington

If it's not Boeing, don't bother going!

IALP Class of 2000: Steve & Mike on the Pier
Our last full day in Washington State began with a trip north to the Boeing 7 series commercial jet factory. This Boeing facility employs 28,000 people and is the world's largest building by volume. Planes are built to order, with a cost of $80 to $180 million each depending model and options.
Next stop, port of Tacoma. Maersk Inc.(left),  America's 2nd largest flagship company makes 13,000 port calls per year. They recently unveiled the Regina, a new world class ship capable of carrying up to 7000 20 ft. containers, with as many as 700 of these being refrigerated.

Port of Tacoma; Gateway to the World.

Pictured here are the overhead cranes for ship offloading at the brand new Hyundai terminal. These cranes are each capable of removing 30, 44,0000 pound containers per hour. A trainload of containers will be in Chicago 66 hours after the ship docks. Also pictured, are debarked Douglas Fir logs destined for export.
One third of all exports from Tacoma are destined for Alaska.  Grain exports have increased substantially in the past couple of weeks. Yeah!!

Scott's excellent adventure????

IALP Class of 2000: Scott Lay

Class member Scott Lay received an emergency phone call at 1 a.m. Tuesday morning.  He was able to catch the first flight home and arrived in time to be present and accounted for when his son Bradley Scott Lay arrived into the world.  Bradley is 5# 3 oz. and 17" long.   As far as we know, mother, son and father are doing fine.

Congratulations
