Thank you for your interest in the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Program (IALP).  We encourage you to complete the application and establish your candidacy for the Class of 2014 which begins in September 2012.  The program is open to men and women ages 25-49 (as of the date of application) who are employed full-time in production agriculture or agri-related occupations in Illinois.  Find out if you are eligible by clicking here:  http://agleadership.org/programs/program-eligibility/ .

The IALP is a series of 15 exciting seminars over two years where experts in their fields lead discussions of current and future issues that will impact agriculture and the global society. The dates for these seminars can be found HERE.

Timeline

Your application will be considered complete when all of these components listed below have been received in our office.  While the deadline is March 31, 2012, we encourage you complete your application as soon as possible. Successful applicants will be interviewed in June 2012 and selected in July 2012.

Cost

There is no application fee.  The participation fee for the program is $3,500 that may be paid by successful candidates in four installments over two years.  There may be additional expenses for some meals and transportation, along with discretional spending.  The actual cost of providing the program is more than $35,000 per person, most of which is funded by the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation (IALF).  This broad base of corporations, individuals and program graduates provides funding because they value leadership and the quality and effectiveness of the IALP.

Before you begin the application process, we suggest that you compile all necessary electronic materials on your computer. The application form does not allow you to save your progress and return at a later date.  Materials that you are required to prepare before the submission process begins include the following:

• A resume that details your employment history and education including high school and college, if any.  Word (.doc) or pdf are the only formats that may be uploaded.  File size should not exceed 1 mb.
• A current headshot picture of yourself in professional business attire not to exceed 300px by 300 px at 72 dpi.  The application will only allow you to submit this photo in jpg format.
• The names and contact information of 2 professional and 2 personal references.  Please contact these individuals BEFORE you place there names on the form as a reference.
• Responses to each of the following (not to exceed 500 words each).  You may want to type these in a Word document and copy and paste them into the application:

1. Why would you like to participate in the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Program?  If selected, how would you plan to utilize the knowledge and experience gained through the program?
2. Please tell us about the organizations (professional, religious, hobby, other) in which you are involved.  How long have you been a member and what offices have you held, if any?
3. Please comment on one specific example of an effort where you personally initiated, developed and played a major leadership role in completing.
4. Discuss briefly what you consider to be the most important challenges or issues facing agriculture today.  How does this relate to problems in your community?  How does this relate to challenges or issues in our nation?
5. In your judgment what are the qualities needed in leadership today?
   Self-evaluate your own leadership potential.  Please be specific.
6. Please tell us about the business or pleasure reading you have done in the past year.  What newspapers, books, magazines, journals or websites do you read often?
7. Indicate foreign travel you have participated in, if any. Tell us what country you visited, what year, and the nature of your trip (business or pleasure.)
