This award recognizes members of the Illinois Agricultural Community who have built a legacy of leadership through exceptional personal commitment and uncommon excellence in service to Illinois agriculture, be it in business, government or education.
The Torch of Leadership Award will be given to nominated individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to Illinois agriculture, government, education or industry throughout a distinguished career. They may be agricultural producers, elected officials, officers in state and national commodity groups, educators, or in agribusiness. They may or may not be graduates of leadership programs of the IALF.
SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS:
It is an honor to be nominated for a Torch of Leadership Award, however, the names of those nominated will not be revealed. Those given the award must be nominated, have the nomination reviewed and approved by a Selection Committee of the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Alumni Association (IALA), and then have their award approved by the IALA Board of Directors. The IALA Board may give multiple awards in any year as it so determines. The award may be given posthumously. Giving the Torch of Leadership Award “the Torch” is the sole responsibility of the IALA Board of Directors and may not be appealed by those making the nomination.
Nominations will be accepted beginning January 1 of even-numbered years (such as 2020) and nominations will close March 15 of the same year. The awards will be given at a ceremony that corresponds with the inaugural meeting of each new class of the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Program, usually in August or September of that same year.
